Hardboard Works
Al Mohler’s hardboard works are often referred to as canvas painting. They are actually done on an art board material that is commonly used by artists. Using this material to paint on gave Mr. Mohler liberty to depict larger scenes not found on slab paintings. Depending on your house or office décor one can select a number of these framed pieces that are very compatible with home or office. The autumn lake scenes or mountain scenes are a very pleasant way to decorate with one of a kind original art. Mr. Mohler also did many animal scenes on hardboards and in some cases certain species of animals can only be found on hardboards and not on slabs.
We have seen some Mohler paintings on mirrors, sheetrock, cardboard, chipboard and even on one leather hide but most work is on hardboard and slabs. These are Mr. Mohler’s best works.
Wood Slabs also called Cabin Art
Wood slabs with animals are generally the most sought after of Al Mohler works. The larger piece the better. The better the quality of Mr. Mohler’s work is a factor as well. Some slabs were painted on rougher wood and sometimes his work was more refined.
Some folks call the slab oils cabin art and this is an acceptable categorization of this work. The reason for this is Al Mohler’s slabs simply look great hanging on a knotty pine, cabin wall or a recreational room. Presumably that’s where they were originally intended to go. Some prefer hardboards on home and office walls and that’s the preference of this writer.
Slabs with deer, bears, and moose are some of the best pieces of good art one can put on a cabin wall. Of course, Al Mohler also did many with other animals and birds and even fish on slabs but many of his sceneries are great works as well.
